Former President Harry S. Truman with Democratic National Chairman Stephen A. Mitchell (left) with Mr. Adlai E. Stevenson (right). The former President stated he would take an active role in the upcoming political campaign in the fall. The cane held by former President Truman was a gift from Republic of Korea President Syngman Rhee during a August 5th visit. In 1952, Adlai Stevenson had been referred to as a party standard bearer.
