The Blair House, located on Pennsylvania Avenue, adjacent to the White House, is the official guest house of the United States. It was the former home of the Blair family, who occupied it for over one hundred years. It was purchased by the Blair family in 1836 from the Lovell estate. Doctor Lovell was the first Surgeon General of the Army.

The studding between these rooms and the sub-flooring date from 1815-1818 when the White House was reconstructed after being burned by the British in 1814.
