These joists at the northeast corner of the Red Room were uncovered during the renovation of the White House. The joists were cut into and weakened apparently to provide space for the pipes to the bathroom of Room 20 above.

View of installation of concrete sewer at the base of the underpinning wall at the center of south wall of the White House. A workman, excavating within the 36" sewer, fills the cart which is pulled out and emptied. The hydraulic jacks force the sewer sections into excavation area.
