After the Armistice was signed many French prisoners of war were turned loose near Verdun to shift for themselves. There were quite a few around our billets and we tried to feed as many as we could. Some of them were pretty well discouraged with their homes gone, families scattered and not knowing what the future held for them. From an album of Lorain H.
