This is a photograph of a political cartoon, entitled "She Ain't What She Used to Be!" by Burris Jenkins, originally published in the New York Journal-American. It depicts a donkey labeled "NEW DEAL" looking weak while Sam Rayburn, Alben Barkley, and J. Howard McGrath try to help the horse while other men try to harm the horse. James Farley is standing in the corner. Harry S. Truman labeled "LIGHT HORSE HARRY" approaches the horse in a jockey uniform and carrying a saddle. The original drawing of this cartoon is in the Truman Library museum collection.

President Harry S. Truman throws out the first pitch at a baseball game between the Washington Senators and Philadelphia Athletics. In the front row, from left to right: Margaret Truman, First Lady Bess W. Truman, President Truman, General Robert Landry, Connie Mack, Vice President Alben Barkley, and Washington Senators manager Bucky Harris. Seated near the center, partly obscured by President Truman is Press Secretary Charles Ross. Standing a few rows directly behind President Truman is Colonel Cornelius Mara (in uniform). All others are unidentified.

Political Cartoon, "Tell Me, Alben..."

This is a photograph of a political cartoon by Jim Berryman for the Washington Evening Star, originally published around 1948. It depicts President Harry S. Truman speaking with Vice Presidential candidate Alben Barkley, with Truman saying "Tell me, Alben,... just where did you go...... and what did you say?" A newspaper resting on the table between them has the headline, "Sweeping Gains Made by G.O.P."

This is a photograph of a political cartoon by Jim Berryman. Alben Barkley (second from the right) is talking to President Harry S. Truman (right). Barkley is saying "Maybe we'd better try to get a little more for health insurance!" A man labeled as Congress is screaming, stamping on top of a paper labeled "Federal Budget," with papers with various billion dollar amounts, and another paper, "$250,000,000 for compulsory health insurance."
