General Jonathan M. Wainwright today told the House of Representatives that only "the memory and hope of America" sustained him and his men through the dark days of their confinement and the "inhuman treatment" by the enemy. In an address to a joint session of Congress today, Admiral Chester Nimitz called on his countrymen to make certain that "no future war may ever again find us unprepared." Admiral Nimitz received a tumultuous greeting from members of Congress when he arrived at the Capitol for the address.
