ELIMINATING CERTAIN LANDS FROM THE SANTA ROSA ISLAND NATIONAL MONUMENT AND RESERVING THEM FOR THE USE OF THE WAR DEPARTMENT FOR MILITARY PURPOSES (1)

WHEREAS certain Government-owned lands now comprising a part of the Santa Rosa Island National Monument, in the State of Florida, are needed by the War Department for military purposes; and

WHEREAS the elimination of such lands from the national monument would not seriously interfere with its administration:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY S. TRUMAN, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the act of June 8, 906, c. 3060, 34 Stat. 225 (16 U.S.C. 431), and as President do proclaim that the following-described lands are hereby eliminated from the Santa Rosa Island National Monument and reserved for the use of the War Department for military purposes, subject to valid existing rights, including those arising out of a lease granted to the Island Amusement Company by Escambia County, Florida, on September 10, 1929, and subsequently modified:

Tallahassee Meridian

T. 2 S., R. 23 W., fractional secs. 19 to 29, inclusive;

T. 2 S., R. 24 W., fractional secs. 19 to 24, inclusive;

R. 2 S., R. 25 W., fractional secs. 19 to 24, and 26 to 30, inclusive;
T. 2 S., R. 26 W., fractional secs. 25, 26, and 27.

The area described aggregates approximately 4,700 acres.
