THE PRESIDENT
Had a meeting yesterday of Security Council — asked Acheson to discuss policy toward Germany.
ACHESON
Policy recommendations are being studied and will flow to President. It is desirable in view of apprehension of France and Britain that Germany may regain position of 1918 and 1939.
THE PRESIDENT
Asked Barkley to describe the organization of the Senate.
BARKLEY
We now have Committee assignments worked out. Committee on Labor and Education will have brief hearings on labor legislation. Banking & Currency Committee is now ready to proceed on inflation problems. Is satisfied that the Senate business is about ready to go forward.
THE PRESIDENT
Starting next week will cut out appointments of dilatory nature and will concentrate on Congressional appointments. In evenings once a week will have Cabinet officers & businessmen to discuss administration program.
