Have checked with V. P. and Speaker about advisability of sending down the Military Assistance Program.
V.P.
Thinks it would delay action on Atlantic Pact if it were sent down at this time.
THE PRESIDENT
Rayburn agrees with V.P. after consulting leaders in House.
ACHESON
Is thinking of new Pres of Gen Assembly. How about Romulo of the Philippines - want Asiatic.
THE PRESIDENT
Not much impressed with him but could do worse.
TREAS.
JOHNSON
Wants to get out from oil shale expenditure and toss it over to Interior.
INTERIOR
Says it is a Defense item and cannot be justified as an Interior project.
THE PRESIDENT
Told Krug and Johnson to get together and work it out.
JOHNSON
Says we are going to get a bill out of Vinson’s Committee on Unification.
DONALDSON
Every month this year has shown increase in postal revenues over same months last year.
KRUG
The Hawaiian strike is still continuing. The Bridges boys are still muddying the waters.
WHITNEY
There has been some increase in employment in the last month. However there is an increase in the labor force due to graduation from schools - (1,125,000).
