THE PRESIDENT
Wants to protect career people in the current reduction in Federal personnel - by transfer or attrition.
SNYDER
Treasury has reduced personnel by 30,000 in last 3 years. Have been careful to retire eligible employees and have carefully managed to protect the career people.
BRANNAN
Agriculture has reduced personnel 20% from war time peak - on same basis as Treasury.
KRUG
Has been to United Nations meeting in N. Y. and feels that definite progress is being made in getting conciliation on more sound basis.
THE PRESIDENT
Described meeting on agriculture program held last Wednesday. The meeting was most successful. Present at that meeting were leaders in Senate & House plus Brannan.
