THE PRESIDENT
Next Friday Jess Larson will report to Cabinet on Public Bldg situation.
I.T.O. is in a bad way. If we are not careful the bill is going to be defeated. It is a joint resolution which should be passed.
ACHESON
Hearings start on next Tuesday. There is a good deal of opposition but everything is being done.
We have been trying to get British to hold planes which were furnished to China Nationals and not release them to the Communists. They have been very stubborn about it.
FOLEY
Tax hearings are going forward. Will continue for 2 or 3 weeks at which time the kind of bill we get will be known.
MCGRATH
Justice is prepared to go ahead on Court injunction in coal strike.
THE PRESIDENT
Warned McGrath to bear down on operators as well as Lewis - operators are just as bad.
DONALDSON
Described the stamp swindle of Harold Ambrose. Was on the Hill yesterday on bill to change postal rates. It passed House but may have tough going in Senate. It is not the bill we want but it is a first bite.
CHAPMAN
Just returned from Virgin Islands. The development of the islands is making progress. We have only 16 days supply of coal above ground.
MCGRATH
Asked if coal could be stockpiled.
CHAPMAN
Coal after 60 to 120 days develops combustion. It is therefore not feasible to do so over a long period.
V.P.
The Senate is coasting for next week the Republicans will be busy with speeches abusing Lincoln.
