Together with A.G. a new stipulation has been worked out whereby tidelands royalties will be deposited with the Federal Treasury pending decision of Supreme Court. This is a real victory.

SAWYER

Tends to change mind on his previous position on Great Lakes shipping. Finds we now have a stockpile of 8 million tons which is half that of peacetime stockpile which has existed for years.

STEELMAN

Railroad strike is still deadlocked and seems hopeless.

VICE PRESIDENT

Conveyed message from Bill Boyle asking Cabinet officers to get a list of absentee voters in each of the Departments.

THE PRESIDENT

Has had staff to work up hysteria history in U. S. and it shows the pattern of such waves of intolerance and witch hunting after each war in our history. Offered a copy of summary to each Cabinet officer. Has also asked Economic Advisors to prepare weekly report on domestic economy. The first report was received yesterday and shows some improvement.

SAWYER

Latest report on national income indicates 235 billion for this year.

VICE PRES.

35-39 agric. income was 479 million average. This year 1,700 million will be agriculture income.

Wants meeting with Agri - Commerce - Symington - Interior.
