Briefed Cabinet on Korea. Described new invasion behind North Korean lines.
THE PRESIDENT
Warned Cabinet officers that he is opposed to wire tapping and asked Cabinet to watch this activity carefully.
ATTY GEN
It is an evil practice but is necessary for check on subversive activities.
SAWYER
If the FBI knows of such activities they should inform Cabinet officers.
WEBB
There seems to be a dropping off in news coverage in China & Russia of the Korean War. This may be tip off on a new line of approach by Russia regarding Korea. We should not look forward to any announcements in the next few days from the meeting of the 3 foreign ministers at the U.N. meeting. They will come out at a later date.
ATTY GEN
Will be ready to move quickly on recommendation to President on pending security legislation. Regretted Johnson's departure from Cabinet.
THE PRESIDENT
Told Secty of Agriculture he wrote letter to Senator Thomas about desirability of providing transportation funds for movement of perishable foods to relief agencies.
SYMINGTON
Is ready to go on Civilian Defense program.
HARRIMAN
Is worried about Wherry amendment which places embargo on export of materials under ECA funds. It was approved by voice vote in the Senate.
THE PRESIDENT
Will try to get conferees to knock it out in conference on appropriation bill.
V.P.
Senate urged early consideration of Excess Profits Tax in next session. The Security Bill is in conference but no one knows what will come out of conference. Hopes it will not be necessary to have President veto the final bill.
