Briefed Cabinet on Korea.

ACHESON

The French proposal on German participation in West Europe Defense is very vague and it is difficult to determine what cooperation we can expect from the French. This subject will be discussed at the meeting of the Defense Ministers to be held the next two days.

MARSHALL

Is confused in his mind by the vagueness of the French attitude. It may be that the French are purposely being vague to placate political resistance at home.

HARRIMAN

Warned that in view of political campaign in France we should be careful not to upset present government of France.

SYMINGTON

Cautioned members not to indicate that price controls are imminent. We have not been able to get any qualified price experts to take the administrator's job. They just will not consider it.

THE PRESIDENT

Is giving thought to recalling Congress a week or 10 days before schedule in view of backlog of impending legislation - Excess Profits - Rent Control - Aid for Korea - Statehood for Alaska, Hawaii, etc.
