U. S. casualties in past few days amounted to 1/100 per cent of total troops employed which is remarkable when the degree of activity is considered.

THE PRESIDENT

Republicans in Congress are planning to have MacArthur appear at a joint session. Suggested that V. P. look into idea of having MacArthur appear first before Armed Services Committees before joint session is called. President has no personal vindictiveness toward the general. Pointed out his record in Japan as an administrator praised his agrarian policy and program in Japan.

ACHESON

4 power talks in Paris are getting to point where we will soon know if Russia will participate in a meeting of the 4 foreign ministers. Tito is making further overtures to Western European thinking - Has stopped collectivising farms - is becoming more friendly to the Catholic Church.

THE PRESIDENT

Complimented Wilson on progress being made in the meetings of labor - management - agriculture - and public looking toward real stabilization program.

Reviewed six years in white House - pointed out that he has had 4 Sectys of State - 3 Sectys of Treasury - Interior - Commerce - Post Office - Labor - Atty Genl. It points out that the world changes and we must keep pace with those changes.
