Galvin for Tobin

GEN BRADLEY

Briefed Cabinet on Korea.

THE PRESIDENT

Called on V. P.

V.P.

Got thru supplemental appropriation bill last week. Will probably take up grain for India this week in Senate.

THE PRESIDENT

Dispersal bill defeat in Congress last week was a dangerous thing. We do not have place in D. C. to put people necessary for Defense Program. There is a threat now to put tax bill over until fall. This would also be dangerous. The bill will go thru House but Senate may drag feet.

V.P.

House should be speeded up otherwise Senate will not act this session.

LOVETT

Gen Marshall is prepared to go on indefinitely in endurance contest before Armed Svc Committee on MacArthur hearings. The hearings are contributing to the knowledge of the enemy in a shocking manner. It has thrown our security into a state of jeopardy never approached in our history by the military disclosures the committee has demanded.

BRANNAN

Crop report indicates 64 million bushels of wheat produced in U.S. this year. We still have adequate stocks of wheat in U.S. to make possible shipments to India. Dept. is to issue statement tomorrow on meat situation. Even with OPS roll backs the price of beef is still an incentive price to producers of beef. The feeders will lose - but they should - they are responsible for pushing up price of beef in face of fact that a price control was going to be put into effect.

SAWYER

Asked if there is possibility of limiting the number of questions or the amount of information provided to Armed Svc Committee.

V.P.

We can't put the administration in position of trying to cut off hearings. It is necessary to have Bradley and Acheson follow Marshall.

GALVIN

Wilson's handling labor situation in good shape. The unemployment anticipated in transition to Defense Production has not developed.

THE PRESIDENT

Our job is to make a record on what - why and wherefore in Congressional program we propose. Has instructed leaders in Congress that he wants a record vote on every amendment to appropriations bills which coalition of Republicans and dixicrats are trying to put through to scuttle program.
