COL CURTIS (USA)

Briefed Cabinet on Korea.

V. P.

Thinks Senate committee will shorten tax hearing to about 2 weeks not the 6 originally planned.

THE PRESIDENT

Complimented Acheson on his testimony on MacArthur.

ACHESON

French election coming up in France is paralyzing Big 4 meeting in Paris. Iranian letter to President enumerates numerous complaints against Anglo-American Oil Company but is friendly to U. S.

Koreans are unhappy about our statements that we will cease fire in Korea if Commies stay out of South Korea.

DONALDSON

There has been increase in postal receipts but also in expenditures. Rate bill is not a bad bill as reported out but is not what Department asked for.

TOBIN

Unions are crying because he refused to pull workers out of Imperial Valley in California. Hopes to reach a settlement this week.

HARRIMAN

Will testify at MacArthur's hearing this week. Will testify that Chiang and Soong were most pleased with agreement (which was not kept) with Soviet to provide aid to Nationalist China.

WILSON

Industry is worried that we will not go ahead with arms program if we get peace in Korea. This is not the case but is a dangerous psychology.
