Briefed Cabinet on Korea.

THE PRESIDENT

Caldwell is putting on a good exhibit at the Inter-Departmental Auditorium. The President saw it this morning and recommended it to Cabinet members.

V.P.

Home rule for District of Columbia bill will be taken up in Senate on Monday.

ACHESON

Have had 3 meetings with Eden and now it is believed that British will contribute to European armies. This should bring Belgians and Dutch into the picture.

British now agree that they should work with us toward the Iran oil situation. Are working out approach to the Egyptian problem.

THE PRESIDENT

Chinese have begun infiltration in Indo-China which is a serious situation.

LOVETT

Had 3 hour session with House Armed Services Committee yesterday. They were courteous and friendly. Have had conferences with British Military which indicated some progress.

MCGRATH

Appreciates the position taken by the President with respect to the Dept. of Justice in his press conference yesterday. President gave McGrath a vote of confidence.

CHAPMAN

The statehood bills for Alaska and Hawaii will receive more favorable consideration in this session of Congress.

BRANNAN

Complimented President on his State of the Union Message.

HARRIMAN

Belgians are bucking our suggestion that they increase their budget for munitions production. This will be a difficult position to defend to Congress - and may affect other NATO countries.

WILSON

Will have howls in the next few weeks on cutbacks in civilian production in the next quarter. We do not have enough materials to go around.

SAWYER

There are 600,000 less unemployed than there were a year ago.
