COMMANDER -

Briefed Cabinet on Korea.

THE PRESIDENT

2,560,000 tons of steel lost in present shut down.

V. P.

President's request for seizure has been beaten in Senate this week. Appropriations bills are lagging in committee and without proper cause. Doubts that St. Lawrence Seaway bill will be acted on this session.

THE PRESIDENT

This Congress has been described as the axe-and-shovel Congress. Axe to cut it up. Shovel to bury it up.

ACHESON

Asks U. N. to designate military representatives of neutral nations to investigate P. O. W. conch teams in Korea. (Idea suggested to President by Sen Russell)

Syngman Rhee is conducting a reign of terror in South Korea to promote his own re-election. This is causing great concern with U. N. troops and government's Koreas troops morale is very low. It looks now that there may be a complete Iron Curtain in the Eastern Zone of Germany.

FOSTER

On Priority One items it looks like we will get 10% of our requirements out of unstruck steel mills and about 10% out of struck mills. This is a very- serious situation. Production of military and plane items, planes - tanks - etc. is going well.

ATTY GEN MCGRANERY

Has worked out what he prays will be a working arrangement with 2 Congressional committees investigating the Dept. of Justice.

CHAPMAN

Thinks we have enough votes to sustain President's veto of Tidelands Bill.

SAWYER

Has finally settled the Dollar Steamship Line case.
