Yugoslavia and Italy are still boiling over Trieste. British influence in Egypt has completely collapsed. Our Ambassador to Egypt has developed considerable influence and may be able to get Egypt into the Middle East defense organization.

All the members are shocked about the death of Joe Short last night.
Just returned from 7th annual meeting of Banking Fund in Mexico City - 54 member countries are now in the organization. The meeting accomplished a great deal and was very worth while.

Reports in press about use of guided rnissile in Korea is false. It is an old plane operated by radio and guided by a mother plane.
Plan to cut back defense expenditures in the coming year.
North Pole air base is a marvel of engineering. It is closer to Moscow than to Seattle. We have a powerful force based there now.

Sen Nixon V. P. candidate for Republicans has been the beneficiary of a fund raised in California to supplement his government income. This fund was about $50,000 in past 2 years. Has also been checking on Sen Jenner of Indiana. He has been receiving a pension or compensation in addition to his salary. Does not know yet if this is a violation of law.

Has two cases of payments for promotion in New York and Chicago which will be prosecuted. Both postmasters have been fired.
