My dear Nan:--

I arrived home from Lute's yesterday & found that you had sent my umbrella home. I am so much obliged to you and Mr. Tony & am very sorry it was so much trouble.

I was at Mrs. Major two weeks, Mrs. Major, Sue and & Mr. Will attended the Association at Plattsburg & Lute wrote for me to go & stay with her, they were gone four days & we had a "boss" time. I enjoyed my visit so very much & was so sorry when the time arrived for me to come home & get to work. I feel so grieved about Lute & her trouble she keeps up so bravely & yet is very sad, she is certainly one of the dearest and sweetest girls that ever lived, & I like Mrs. Major & Sue very, very much. Sue bears acquaintance as well as any one I ever saw.

I am sewing away again haven't much longer now, my school begins two weeks from next Monday. I leave for the country a week from Saturday. I saw Dollie Musser Brown on the train yesterday but didn't speak to her, they have been to Texas but have come back to Kansas City to live. Lute didn't know her number. Nan, I promised to tell you the name of that tree we spoke of that evening. Ella says, it is called "India Sumach" or "tree of Paradise". I would like my young lady to know why you didn't answer my letter? You owe me two now remember. Lute said Miss Yates arrived home last week, did she stay with Miss Nell until then? I must close for want of something to write & it is bed time. Give my love to all the family and write real soon. All send love & much from me.

Yours lovingly,

Mattie
