Former President Harry S. Truman opens the first baseball game of the season between the Kansas City Athletics and Detroit Tigers by throwing out the first pitch at Municipal Stadium. Pictured in the foreground from left to right: Athletics manager Lou Boudreau, Mr. Truman, Tigers manager Bucky Harris, and Athletics owner Arnold Johnson. In the background left to right: Stuart Wien (dark hair and tie), Lester Milgram (glasses), Nat Milgram (mostly obscured behind Truman's hat), and former Athletics owner Connie Mack (in the shadows behind Truman's hand).
