This is a view of American armed positions during the Battle of Verdun during World War I. This photograph is marked on the front. Harry S. Truman wrote on the back, "Battery C position in...foreground. Bty D to the left. Ft De Souville and ...ntenie de Hospital 2nd Battalion headquarters." The photograph was taken during the Battle of Verdun and is part of a collection belonging to Harry S. Truman from the time he spent in France during World War I.
