Description

President Truman's press secretary, Charles Ross (fifth from the left), points to a painting in the Oval Office called "The Peacemakers" by George P. A. Healy. It depicts President Lincoln's meeting in March, 1865 with General Grant, General Sherman, and Admiral Porter. The painting was recently purchased with White House maintenance funds for $10,000.
