Description
Original ante-bellum home of Peter Waggoner, Sr., founder of Waggoner-Gates Milling Co. Mr. Waggoner leans on his cane and Elizabeth (Mrs. William Henry) Waggoner stands between him and his wife, Mrs. Mary Waggoner. Mrs. Cora Waggoner Jamison, his niece, sits on the ground. The white horse on the left is George, a favorite driving horse of his son, W.H. Waggoner. Bob Evans, a faithful negro employee drives the team on the right. The home was owned by artist George Caleb Bingham from 1864 to 1870 and he is said to have started his famed "Order No. 11" here. From: Raymond Blake, Independence, Missouri
