General Jonathan Wainwright, back in this country after having been a prisoner of the Japs, finds it is the same America and that he is still a top fan. General James A. Van Fleet, left, and Lt. Gen. Edward M. Almond, former 10th Army Corps Commander, snapped at a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing today where they were questioned about the recent serious ammunition shortage in Korea. General James A. Van Fleet, 60-year-old former 8th Army commander, told Congressmen this morning that the Korea deadlock is a sit-down of our own choice. Van Fleet, appearing before the House Armed Services Committee, also suggested the draft term be lengthened from its present two years "to 30 or 36 months." Presidential Military Aide, Major General Harry H. Vaughan, was the star witness today before the Senate Committee investigating so-called "five percenters." General Vaughan told the committee he had given assistance to business concerns only as a matter of "extending aid whenever that could properly be done." From: Beth Gore.
