General Jonathan M. Wainwright was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Truman

General Jonathan M. Wainwright being presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor in the Rose Garden at the White House on the occasion of General Wainwright's return to Washington after his release from imprisonment by the Japanese. The final stand on beleaguered Corregidor, for which he was in an important measure personally responsible, commanded the admiration of the nation's allies. (See also 66-1499-13.)
