Replying to Navy charges on unification before the House Armed Services Committee, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson said that, contrary to Navy testimony, he killed the Navy's super aircraft carrier project after lengthy study and with full approval of President Truman. Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson after his return from a week-end conference with General Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Joint Chiefs at Key West, Florida, telling reporters they had accomplished more at the meeting than during any other similar period in the last three years. He said the Joint Chiefs are "truly a team" although each is a "star" in his military field.
