Reconstructed Agriculture and Commerce Building in Manila, Philippines

Photograph is part of a collected group of photos belonging to Francis P. Matthews, Secretary of the Navy (1949-1951). They are associated with the United States Philippine War Damage Commission. This view is identified as post-World War II reconstruction of the Agriculture and Commerce Building in Manila and done under the Philippine Rehabilitation Act of 1946.

Philippine War Damage Commission Plaque

Identified as a bronze plaque placed on all major public projects connected with the U.S.A. Philippine War Damage Commission. The wording below the commission seal reads: "Rebuilt With the Aid of the People of the United States of America Under the Philippine Rehabilitation Act of 1946." This photograph is part of a scrapbook featuring Philippine locations and from the Honorable Francis P. Matthews, Secretary of the Navy.

President Harry S. Truman Signs Foreign Aid Bill

President Harry S. Truman (seated) signs the Foreign Assistance Act which would send $6,098,000,000 around the world to combat Communism. This bill created the European Recovery Program to implement the Marshall Plan. Standing behind President Truman from left to right are: Senator Arthur Vanderburg, Secretary of the Treasury John Snyder, Representative Charles Eaton, Senator Tom Connally, Secretary of the Interior Julius Krug, (mostly obscured), Speaker of the House Joseph Martin, Representative Sol Bloom, and Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P. Anderson (behind Bloom, mostly obscured).

Venezuelans Holding Meeting in Caracas

A group of unidentified Venezuelan men and women are seen seated in chairs and around a table. The event is in relation to a visit by U.S. Labor Department official Robert C. Goodwin (not pictured), Administrator of the Bureau of Employment Security. It was held in Caracas, Venezuela. According to Mr. Goodwin's appointment book he was there in the country from November 19-23, 1965.
