Attorney General J. Howard McGrath was the first witness appearing before a Senate Commerce Subcommittee on a bill to outlaw interstate transmission of gambling information. Attorney General McGrath told the Committee that he did not know of any nationwide crime syndicate, but the Federal Government wants to help the states suppress "organized" gambling activities. Thomas B. McCabe told the Senate Banking Committee that although "there doubtless have been mistakes" he thought his war surplus property disposal agency did the best possible job.
