World War, 1939-1945

The map, of areas adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea, shows main railways, international boundaries, specifies Allied and Axis areas of control, and highlights neutral countries. Printed text reveals news on multiple fronts. A smaller map shows an area near Australia and New Guinea and highlights areas under Allied and Japanese control. Printed text on the back provides soldiers tips on how to avoid diseases in tropical areas in the Pacific.

The map marks the location of U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps fields, commercial or municipal fields, auxiliary fields, mooring masts, night lighting facilities, transportation routes, Coast Guard stations, radio stations, prominent transmission lines, oil well towers, radio and light beacons, high explosive areas, prohibited areas, etc. Pencil annotations refer to schedules, fields, and statutes. Wheeler, Bellows, South Cape (Morse), Hilo, Suiter, Maui, Homestead, Burns, Barking Sands, and Morse Field are noted.

A National Geographic map titled "Western Europe." The map shows principal railways, highways, canals, principal airports, passes, ruins, and the American, British, French, and Russian occupation zones in post World War II Germany and Austria. Annotations, in pencil and blue ink, mark the movement of Allen White's 110th Engineers during World War I. Areas highlighted are Eu, Dieppe, Amiens, Le Havre, Rouen, Paris, Varennes, Montfaucon, Verdun, St.

An American map titled "Germany: Zones of Occupation." The map shows American, British, French, and Soviet occupation zones, including joint administration areas such as the Bremen Enclave and Berlin. An attached sheet, hiding portions of the map and the legend, refer to the "Polish-German Frontier" and details border proposals east of the Oder-Neisse Line, the area covered by each proposal, and the populations within as of 1939.

The map, which includes a portion of Canada, shows principal railways, canals, highways, U.S. fish hatcheries, battlefields, elevations, and other details. Included is an inset that shows portions of Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. This map is one of a set of maps that have been removed from an album titled "United States of America: United States Army Air Forces." Another note within the album read: "Prepared by Cartographic Branch, AC/AS-2 Intelligence."

An American map titled "The Route of the Ninth Division Thru the NATOUSA and ETOUSA: Nov. 8, 1942-June 1945." The map of the North African theater shows the route taken by the American 9th Division and includes division command post locations, dates stationed at these locations, and the landing points of the 39th, 47th, and 60th regimental combat teams. The map titled "The Big Picture" shows the route of the 9th Division throughout Europe and Africa and numbers the areas covered on the other maps.
