Off-the-Air Radio Coverage of Harry S. Truman's Funeral

Sound recording, apparently taped off-the-air, of music interrupted by news coverage of Harry S. Truman's funeral from Independence, MO. Most of the recording is music, but at about 27:15 of side one, radio DJ Army Specialist Bob Meyer interrupts the music to bring the Group W news feed of former president Harry S. Truman's funeral services at the Harry S. Truman Library. On this day, the casket was being unloaded from the hearse and moved into the Library lobby for viewing. President Nixon and former president Johnson were scheduled to appear later in the day.

This silent home movie shows the Daniel family celebrating Thomas Washington Daniel's birthday at home with a group of his friends.  Then it jumps to Christmas day at the Daniel home, where E. Clifton Daniel and Margaret Truman Daniel watch as their sons Clifton Truman Daniel, William Wallace Daniel, Harrison Gates Daniel, and Thomas Washington Daniel open gifts.

This silent home movie, presumably shot by E. Clifton Daniel, shows the Daniel family at home in their New York apartment. Specifically, Clifton Truman Daniel getting dressed in a tuxedo, while his mother, Margaret Truman Daniel, and two brothers Harrison Gates Daniel and Thomas Washington Daniel, peek around the door. Clifton walks down the stairs in his tails and white tie, and Margaret makes some final adjustments on his bow tie. Clifton sits dramatically at the piano as though he were about to give a performance.

Truman Funeral at the Truman Library

Members of the Daniel family are escorted into the Truman Library to receive guests attending the viewing of former President Harry S. Truman prior to his funeral. Coming up the stairs first is Margaret Truman Daniel, followed by her husband, E. Clifton Daniel, and two sons, Thomas Daniel (left) and Harrison Daniel (left). Behind Mr. Daniel are his two oldest sons, Clifton T. Daniel (left) and William W. Daniel (right). All others are unidentified.
