Attorney General J. Howard McGrath was the first witness appearing before a Senate Commerce Subcommittee on a bill to outlaw interstate transmission of gambling information. Attorney General McGrath told the Committee that he did not know of any nationwide crime syndicate, but the Federal Government wants to help the states suppress "organized" gambling activities. At a press conference, Secretary of State Dean Acheson indicated that the United States would consider any attack on Hong Kong by Chinese Communists as a matter for action by the United Nations Council. John J. McCloy, right, U. S. High Commissioner for Germany, told the reporters that it is incredible that Western Germany political leaders are stressing nationalism in the German political campaign, instead of dealing with substantial issues.
