French President Vincent Auriol (standing) giving a speech at the District Building in Washington, D.C. during welcoming ceremonies being held in his honor. Seated on the left side of the podium, from left to right: Attorney General J. Howard McGrath, Secretary of Defense George Marshall, French Ambassador to the United States Henri Bonnet (partly obscured), Vice President Alben Barkley, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, President Truman, District Commissioner John R. Young, and an unidentified man. Seated on the right side of the podium is First Lady Bess W. Truman. All others are unidentified.
