After studying articles and timelines on the Iran Hostage Crisis in groups, students will participate in a class discussion of the circumstances and causes of the crisis. Groups will study primary documents with the goal of providing a recommendation.

Help students see the Vietnam War in the larger context of the Cold War.

Technological project: Photostory or Movie Maker. The student is to create a visual presentation that tells the historical facts of the Vietnam War. They are also to include in their presentation music that reflects the era of the war.

Students are required to analyze the presidential diaries of Lyndon B. Johnson. Research is combined with analysis to identify people and groups mentioned in the diary.

Students will read a document of Kennedy-Khrushchev exchanges. Students will take notes, write a summary, and answer questions on a primary resource. They will also take the role of Kennedy and write a response to Khrushchev.

Individual lesson that begins with an introduction to the Korean War. Students then listen to audio clips of President Truman and answer questions to the clips while they are listening.

To assist students in developing skills that will enable them to analyze political cartoons and political posters and develop an understanding of the different perspectives of the Korea War, students will analyze political cartoons and political posters.

Teams of students will collect data to support a thesis regarding the firing of General MacArthur.

Students will study a U.S. President removing a high-ranking military officer from command by comparing Truman's firing of MacArthur with Obama accepting McChrystal's offer to resign.

Using the Truman Library Korean War Document collection, the students will read primary documents, analyze and evaluate them, synthesize a summary and place them on a timeline. The timeline forms the basis for other activities.
