Map of the Pacific Theater

The map, titled "The War Against Japan: Advance Across the Pacific and the Situation on 14 August 45," shows the Japanese perimeter as of August 1945, the maximum Japanese perimeter and phase perimeters, Japanese bases by-passed or neutralized, points of Allied and Japanese engagement, points of Allied advance, points of Allied air attack, areas under various degrees of Allied air attack, principal points of Allied occupation and bases, and the atomic bomb targets. Handwriting on the back indicates that this map is part of the Official File.

The map, titled "Japanese Expansion," shows the Japanese perimeter in 1868 and after their surrender, the perimeter at successive dates, the perimeter as of November 1941, the perimeter as of July 1942, the planned perimeter, the points of Japanese advance or strike, principal points occupied by the Japanese, points of Japanese and Allied engagement, and the location of Allied bases. Handwriting on the back indicates that this map is part of the Official File. The handwriting reads: "Official File: 651, Ltr: 8/15/45." This map appears to be a photocopy.

The map shows highways, roads, trails, boundaries, principal navigational lights, railroads, rice fields, relief, and other details. A meters to feet conversion graph, Japanese to English glossary, and index to boundaries are also included. Annotations in black pen highlight principal objectives, mostly that of communication centers, and miscellaneous objectives such as police stations, palaces, and military offices.

Annotations, in green, highlight the post-war occupation areas controlled by the 11th Airborne Division.

The legend, written on a separate piece of paper, states that the black line on the map represents the boundary of the area of initial evacuation while the red line represents the boundary of the Tokyo Bay area. The American map of the Western front shows the route of the 187th Field Artillery Group from June 8, 1944 to May 8, 1945. Locations specified on this map are mostly accompanied by the dates the 187th was there. Also included on this map is a history of the 187th Field Artillery Group, printed graphics relating to the A National Guard and the New York 14th Infantry Regiment, the location of the Siegfried Line, rivers, international boundaries, and the handwritten signature of Colonel Winfred C. Green. Handwriting on the back identifies this map as being part of the Official File.

Map of the 262nd Ordnance Battalion (AM)

The American map of the Western front shows the route of the 262nd Ordnance Battalion (AM) from January 10, 1944 to August 8, 1945. This map features towns visited by the 262nd, printed drawings depicting locations in these towns, the location of 262nd command posts, and other details. Printed text, near Hohenbrunn, Germany, reads: "Dedicated to Capt. Lawrence E. Cooper, Jr., U.S. Army Medical Corps." Printed text on the back gives a history of the 262nd, organizations that are related, battalion headquarters personnel, and two letters from Lieutenant Colonel D.F.

An American map titled "Outloading of Major Units in Europe." The map shows railroads, rivers, international boundaries, the movement of United States Army divisions, and the locations and capacities of assembly and staging areas. Three tables attached to the map show the departure schedule of divisions in the European and Mediterranean theaters, as well as, the divisions scheduled to remain in Europe. Parts of this map are hidden because of creases made in the map during lamination.
