A map of Tanaga Island in the Aleutian Islands where the United States Navy had an emergency landing field during World War II. Handwriting on the back reads: "Tanaga Is. was to have been the landing place originally. Navy wouldn't land there so Adak was chosen as a compromise. C.S." Donated by Clarence J. Stewart.

Map of the First Session of the United Nations

The map of New York and Connecticut highlights, in white, the general area under consideration for the United Nations Organization's permanent home. White Plains, New York, Stamford, Connecticut, and Hunter College in New York City are also marked on this map. The map of southeast Europe, east Africa, and south Asia shows, in white, areas discussed at the first Security Council meeting. The areas highlighted are Iran, Greece, the Netherlands East Indies, Syria, and Lebanon.

Printed text, titled "Iran: Rich Land, Poor Land," describes the history of Iran, its demographics, its oil reserves, and the United Nations Organization's effort to set up direct bilateral talks between Iran and the Soviet Union over a native uprising in Azerbaijan.

Printed text, accompanied by photographs, describes the estimated discharge rate of Army forces from September 1945 to June 1946, the objectives and rules for the Demobilization Program, and the estimated Army distribution as of July 1, 1946. Printed drawings on the back show the shoulder insignia of United States Army combat divisions.

Printed text on this map describes the flanking of Shuri by the Seventh Infantry Division. The map of the Pacific theater shows international boundaries, describes the Chinese capture of Nanning, and locates, in red, the areas covered on the other four maps.

Map of the 11th Airborne Division at Atsugi Airfield

The map of Atsugi Airfield in Japan is annotated to show the headquarters of the 11th Airborne Division and its components as of August 22, 1945. The headquarters of the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment, the 188th Glider Infantry Regiment, and the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment are specified. Handwriting on the back identifies this map as being part of the President's Secretary's Files. The handwriting reads: "Truman Papers-PSF, Misc. File."

The map of the European theater shows railroads, rivers, international boundaries, battle lines on the Western and Eastern front as of April 24, 1945, and the battle line on the Italian front. Printed text on this map describes Allied activity in Germany including: Bremen, Hamburg, Regensburg, Berlin, Dessau, Leipzig, and Dresden. Printed text also describes Allied activity in Italy including: Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, and La Spezia.

The map of the European theater shows railroads, roads, rivers, international boundaries, battle lines on the Western and Eastern front as of April 10, 1945, and activity at the Ruhr Pocket. This map also shows the current battle line on the Italian front and describes the movement of the British Eighth Army across the Senio River.
