0:00      Voice of Harry S. Truman: The one we did take was the endeavor to prevent all of mankind from being slaughtered by atomic war. The conquerors Ghengis Khan and Tamburlaine were very cruel. Tamburlaine was said to kill enough people that a pile of skulls lay as high as the gates of the towns he conquered. In the fifty years we had two World Wars. It took us 80 years to find out if our own government would work.

1:13      Truman:  We reached the age of reason; we tried the idea of the United Nations.  It was supposed to be a great organization and eventually it will be.

Voice:  “Cut.”

Truman:  We couldn’t abandon Iran . . . if we did we would be abandoning the United Nations.
