| Harry S. Truman, seated before a candelabra and clock at the Harry S. Truman Library that was a gift from jeweler Fred Goldman, is heard speaking in off and on silent and sound footage about how soon the war with Japan would end after Victory in Europe Day. He says Japan surrendered two to three days after the atomic bombs were dropped instead of the 18 months they had figured after V. E. Day. Mr. Truman says that the newspaper poll of the war's end was a "little better than guesses of my own Generals." |
