Motion Picture MP2022-10
Administrative Information
Home movies shot by Lieutenant Daniel Karp during his service in the Air Force in the Korean War. Karp was mainly stationed in Japan. This film was an attempt to make a more polished movie with the help of Karp's roommate, Dale Hasler. It starts in Ashiya, Japan, with Karp writing a letter home to his mother and father, and the film is like an attempt to demonstrate the contents of the letter. It says, "Today is Sunday and we are planning a camping trip." The letter is dated August 1952. It shows his life in his living quarters, smoking a Chesterfield, having a drink, and packing for a trip including boxes of film. They leave in a Jeep. They take in various sites including a plant with large leaves, a stone monument, and fishermen at work. They visit a beach and go swimming and look for shells. Karp loads a movie camera while sitting in the Jeep. Then the action goes back inside and shows Karp finishing the letter and addressing the air mail envelope with "The End."
