Motion Picture MP2022-11
Administrative Information
Home movies shot by Lieutenant Daniel Karp during his service in the Air Force in the Korean War. Karp was mainly stationed in Japan. This film shows the way home to the United States from Japan, then moves to scenes in the United States. It starts with a "Welcome to Japan" sign at the port in Yokohama, where Karp's boat was departing. Various scenes of boats on the water, and aboard ship. After landing in an unidentified American port, the view is out of a flying plane. Then a "Welcome Home Danny" sign hanging in a house, presumably Karp's parents' home. Scenes of the home interior and the large spread of food, as well as women lighting a candle. Then it jumps to a Halloween invitation encouraging couples' costumes. Scenes from the party include decorations, a cake that says "Shaney" and "Danny," Shaney Karber dressed as Cleopatra, and other people in costumes. They bob for apples. Then the scene changes to a diamond ring, likely a marriage proposal to Shaney Karber, and presumably their engagement party. Then the scene changes to a visit to Bushkill Falls, Pennsylvania, with a group of friends in the late fall or early winter. They visit Unity House run by the I.L.G.W.U. The scene changes to a home interior, where a woman is preparing a dinner. The scene changes to a home exterior, where Daniel and Shaney are seated outside. They open an envelope. The scene changes to an apparent college campus showing a large brick building with a Palladian window, clock, and copula. A group of men in military uniform doing drills. It ends with men playing football and basketball.
